"Sinners! You're all sinners and you're going straight to hell!" We've all seen them, heard about them or been eternally damned by them. They are the street preachers, and they annually "bless" the public sidewalks of Otterbein's campus with their presence during the spring.

Exposing ethanol's dark side

The Lantern, Ohio State, OH

For every one of you who believes we can fix global warming with more government "solutions," I have sad news for you: Santa isn't real either.

Al Gore and other environmentalists were ecstatic when the U.S. government agreed it was a smart idea to force people to mix ethanol into gasoline. I'm sure their intentions were good (except for the fact that good ole Al just happens to own a whole lot of stock in agribusinesses). The idea that we can "grow" gas sounds exciting, and so does the idea that we can rely less on imported oil, reduce carbon dioxide emissions and save the planet in the process.

A solution for Nexus?

Guardian , Wright State University, OH

Nexus, Wright State's literary journal, has long been an excellent medium for writers to have their work published. Whether it was their first or sixteenth published work, writers could use Nexus to get their work out to the world and add to their resume.

However, that all may change next year.

OUR VIEW: Road less traveled

Ball State Daily News, Ball State University, IN

Among his numerous great works of literature, one of Robert Frost's more popular pieces was a 20-line sonnet entitled "Road Not Taken."

The poem documented a lone traveler who was stuck at a fork in the road. After taking a long moment to contemplate which direction to take, the traveler chose to proceed on the path less traveled.

We've all dealt with anger that comes from intense frustration at some point in our lives. We will sometimes make bad decisions because of it. Such has certainly been the case with me in recent days; I've been severely frustrated by the current state of affairs with our campus newspaper.

Fashion Dungjen: 6126 trashy ode to Monroe

It's thigh highs and low blows for one of America's favorite Hollywood role models.

Like every other bottle-blonde celebrity in Hollywood, Lindsay Lohan has launched her own clothing line. The "much anticipated" line consists of one thing and one thing only: leggings.

It is time to elect a man named 'Hussein'

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. That's how Shakespeare put it. In other words, a rose is a rose is a rose.

Apparently this truism no longer applies in today's climate of nearly tri-partisan politics. People keep talking about Hillary Clinton acting as a pre-emptive spoiler by staying in the game. I thought that was ridiculous just a few weeks ago, before I'd heard of people so set against Obama that they would rather vote for John McCain.

Your article regarding Rainbow Alliance in the April 30, 2008 issue of the Guardian was very informative, but perhaps you should have gone directly to the source of all the complaints against the organization.

The Guardian interviewed only two of the organization's advisors, only two student members, and had perspectives from sixty percent of the executive board, who of course are going to defend their position on cancelling the organization's meetings.

Once again, following the well-publicized death of an animal, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is calling for action.

Is it over? Can we safely say that Barack Obama and John McCain will be the nominees of their parties for this upcoming election? As we quickly approach the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, the pieces are slowly beginning to take shape. There are two main reasons this race has not been decided yet.

I have reached a new level of maturity in life. I now realize that it's not the amount of money we spend on a present, but rather the amount of time and thought that goes into a gift that shows our mothers how much we truly care and appreciate them.

Why Clinton failed

The Lantern, Ohio State, OH

Thankfully, there is now light at the end of the tunnel in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination. Of course, Barack Obama has been the likely nominee since about March, but the insufferable Hillary Clinton launched a kamikaze campaign that looked like it might just be successful until, well, North Carolina and Indiana finally placed the coup de grace on what had become one the odder presidential campaigns - one that saw Rudy Giuliani spend $50 million to net one delegate and saw Ron Paul get a national microphone.

The pride of Ball State University is walking the streets of Muncie, not behind bars and still getting a paycheck.

Freshmen must strive for intellectual diversity in university setting

Louisville Cardinal, University of Louisville, KY

Way back during the Freshmen Orientation of 2004, I had the pleasure of hearing Professor Phil Laemmle's famous "Biscuit Speech." Laemmle was a great teacher and great man who made a positive impact in the lives of numerous students. His annual Biscuit Speech, delivered at freshmen orientation, was about how college freshmen are young and stupid, but by listening to folks like him, they could fix it together.
