Katharine McPhee's debut album: I'm 'Over It'

If you missed the last season of American Idol and are unaware of the McPheever that broke out, then don't worry. I'm pretty sure there's not a chance of there being a breakout any time soon.

On her self-titled debut album, McPhee starts out pretty mellow with "Love Story." It's very repetitive. At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about the first track, but, I don't know, I still can't really put my finger on it. It's all right, but nothing big.

The second track is her first single "Over It." At first, I thought it totally sucked. As someone I know put it, I've heard this song by every other artist, just worded differently.

Now, just like any other girl, I love my heels and my open-toed shoes, but do I love them enough to write a song about them? Not so much. In "Open Toes," she blabs on about how she's wearing a baseball cap or jeans, or this or that, but she still looks good in her open toes. And she hates flats, just so you know. Because those open toes are just too awesome.

I really think I'd like her album if the material was better. Maybe next time she should sing about her Coach bag, then I might like it… just kidding…sort of.

"Home" is a nice slow down. You can hear her vocals a lot better and you get a feel that she really does have talent. I actually watched her season of Idol, so I know she has it in her, so it's nice to hear it being showcased. I might say this is my favorite song on the album. She asks if anyone knows what it's like to feel larger than life. She goes on to say when you do, that's when you've found home.

It's soothing and it's one of those heartfelt songs that if the mood was right, then you would completely cry your eyes out. Well, I don't know about the guys, but, possibly, a handful of the girls.

McPhee's album is labeled as rhythm and blues, I'm not sure if I agree with the genre, but I see where it might head in that direction.

On most of the songs, there's this vibe that hits you hard. It reminds me of a Christina Aguilera tone, with a deeper voice and a stronger beat.

I agree with some of your comments. I did not like some of the songs at first, but the more I listened the more I fell in love with most of the tracks and now I can't get them out of my head. (Continued…)

I don't think you're supposed to take the lyrics seriously enough to comment on them, on some of the songs. They're dance tracks. You're just supposed to get up and shake what your mama gave ya. (Continued…)
