The Student Activities Council might be doing things a little differently after Tuesday's Student Government Association meeting.
SGA passed a resolution during their weekly meeting that will require SAC to take a closer look at how it handles student programming.
The resolution requires SAC to establish a better way of evaluating students' interests in programs, determining the impact the programs will have on students and advertising effectively.
It also requires SAC to be more careful when spending public funds. SAC's budget is set at about $200,000.
SGA passed the resolution with a 14-13 vote after a short debate on whether or not the resolution should be passed.
Senator Lindsey Cross sponsored the resolution.
Cross said the purpose of the resolution was to encourage SAC to reach out to more students and have better programming. She added that one thing the resolution aims to improve is student attendance at SAC programs.
SAC hosts several, important programs and too few students attend, Cross said.
But nearly half the student senators opposed the resolution.
Senator Allison Helsinger argued it was not SGA's place to tell SAC how to operate. It would be like SAC coming in and telling the student government to change the way it runs things, she said.
But Cross said it was the senate's job to represent the students' needs and more efficient programming is one of those needs.
Alison King, the vice president of SAC, said she was apprehensive about the resolution at first, but after talking with Cross, King said she felt better about the resolution.
And in the end, those who supported the resolution won.
"We want SAC to know we think they're doing a wonderful job and we support all the programs," said Senator Robert Miller. "This resolution should be viewed as nothing but positive. It encourages them to reassess the programming and make SAC as a whole and their events better."

An important point that needs to be clarified in this article is that SAC is actually a branch of SGA; they are not separate organizations. More acurately, the Student Senate, also a branch of SGA, passed a resolution pertaining to SAC. (Continued…)

Sounds like David needs to have more things he would like to control.
