My Turn: The benefits of having a sauna for a dorm room
Laura Butler
Issue date: 4/30/09 Section: Perspective
Another blessing in disguise from the "Eastern Heat Miser" is the need to free ourselves from the confinement of our tiny Dutch ovens. Everyone is heading out to lie on the cool grass in the Ravine.
I don't think I've ever seen so many people lounging around in the shade, enjoying the cool breeze and meeting up with friends from across campus in their swimsuits to get a tan.
I heard a live, impromptu jazz performance on Monday night, watched a stage production Tuesday and caught an acoustic sing-a-long concert yesterday afternoon.
We've taken the Facebook chat outside, unplugged our fingers from our keyboards for emailing and paper writing, moved the textbooks outside and have taken advantage of the sunshine and the fresh air.
I'm not usually one to embrace the creepy-crawly wildlife, but I've taken a liking to the ladybugs and little ant armies that have decided to join me on my beach towel.
Okay, so you might've read my little spiel and come to the conclusion I'm crazy. Well it may be true, but maybe my brain has melted a little.
My point is there's nothing we can do about the sweltering heat in the closets we call home. It's ridiculously hot, we all know it and we've all complained about it. But we've only got a little over a week to savor our last breaths of Eastern air for the semester, however stuffy they may be.
So I'm going to stop whining and start enjoying the few days left of this semester. If you care to join me, bring a blanket, a book and a smile and head toward the Ravine.

I like your attitude toward this inconvenience. I remember dorm days and how those rooms cook. I think One of the reasons I use my Infared Sauna is to remember those days. (Continued…)
